Pharrell’s Latest Clothing Line Makes Plastic Look Sexy as Hell

If anyone can make recycled plastic a fashion statement, it’s Pharrell Williams.

We wouldn't go as far to say plastic polluting the ocean is fashionable, but if anyone can make recycled plastic a fashion statement, it’s Pharrell Williams.

As the creative director of Bionic Yarn, Pharrell launched a clothing line called “RAW for the Oceans” with a distinct theme: The clothes are made primarily of recycled ocean plastic. The high-end collection was released in the fall of last year, has since introduced a hot spring/summer line this year and has seen a lot of attention from celebrities and fans alike.

With the motto "Turning the Tide on Ocean Plastic Pollution," collaborators Bionic Yarn and environmental group Parley for the Oceans are encouraging other creatives to use ocean waste elsewhere and raise awareness of the growing issue polluting the water.

Roughly 700,000 plastic bottles form the sea were broken down and repurposed for each collection, which includes jeans, denim jackets, T-shirts and sweatshirts.
